Stories of Lost Children
My Precious Baby Boy Patch
by Sara Spray, Seymour, U.S.A..
September of 2000 I found that I was pregnant. I was really scared when I found out because I already had one child and I was only seventeen. So I went to Planned Parenthood to confirm it. I was having a lot of bleeding and I wanted to ask them what they thought. They told me to get an abortion because it was not going to be a healthy pregnancy and they sent me to the E.R. They told me everything was fine. A couple of weeks later I went back because I was gushing with blood. They did an ultrasound and told me everthing was fine and then they sent me home. A month later I went back for the same reason and they did another ultrasound and again everthing was OK. Well, Janurary 22nd I thought I broke my water and went back to the hospital, but this time I was far enough along. I went to the o.b. floor and they called my doctor and she confirmed that I had broke my water. So they sent me to a bigger hospital in Indianapolis. I was the longest patient there with my water broke and my son was the healthiest baby on the fetal monitors. Finally being up there for 2 1/2 months I went into labor. I was exited to see my son. He was breech so I needed a c-section. When the doctors came in, they thought it would be a while and an hour later my son was ready. I had the urge to push but I couldn't because he was breech and he was sitting in my cervix so they took me in for a emergency c-section. At 11:00 a.m. I gave birth to my son Patch Samuel Abner. When they got him to the NICU they found out that his lungs were too premature for him to survive. I was devested and they brought him in so we could hold him. I feel so guilty because I had a lot of problems after my surgery so I couldn't hold him very long. Later, the Neonatal doctor said my water must have broken before I came to the hospital. I will always wonder if Seymour could have prevented something since they sent me home so many times. IN LOVING MEMORY OF PATCH SAMUEL ABNER MARCH 11,2001
