Stories of Lost Grandchildren
Bubba
by Cynthia A. Burciaga, Denver, CO, U.S.A.
I am still reeling from the loss of my beloved, sweet, adorable 14 month old grandson, Brandon. We called him "Bubba". His father slammed him against a wall, head-first, and Brandon died on Oct. 19th from a traumatic head injury. His mother, my daughter Melanie, called me the day he was injured - screaming, telling me that Brandon was not breathing and on his way to Children's Hospital. I was ready to go into surgery (nurse) but I just dropped everything and my co-workers drove me to the hospital. For 2 unsufferable nights I sat up with Brandon praying for a miracle. He looked like the elephant man - his right side of his head was so swollen. We let him pass away on Oct 19th. We took turns holding him and rocking him. I don't know how to get over this horrible event. My daughter is silently grieving - won't talk about it. My only comfort is knowing Bubba is in Heaven - no matter how much I want him here instead.
